The Botox Boom in Millennials

By Aly Boeckh, AmSpa

According to a recent study by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), Botox procedures have increased by 18 percent from 2014 to 2015, and nearly 6,500 percent since 1997, making it the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure in the market.

Who are these new clients contributing to this surge in procedures?
ASAPS’ research shows that in 2015 there were a total of 535,939 Botox procedures for those aged 19-34 (a.k.a millennials). This age group makes up 15.9% of the total non-surgical procedures from 2015.

Why are more millennials choosing Botox?
There are many factors that are potentially contributing to the increase in popularity among millennials (social media, trust and transparency, celebrity influencers), but for many millennials it's simply because they want to take a preventative measure that is easy to use and provides predictable results

How will this affect your Medical Spa?
Discovering a newly segmented audience in the industry is an opportunity to grow your customer base immensely. However, it is very important to understand your state's laws and regulations to maintain a high level of professionalism and ensure that your practice is running safely and compliantly. Becoming an AmSpa member is the best way to receive exclusive access to your state's regulations and benefits, as well as any other legal/business resource that your medical spa needs.
